My First Baby

A few weeks after we brought Tommy home from the hospital, our little buddy Jake was diagnosed with diabetes. I thought to myself, Seriously? I mean do I really need another challenge right now? We were told he'd need two shots of insulin for the rest of his life, but we would do anything for Jake, so there was no question we would do it. Then practically overnight, the diabetes caused him to go blind from cataracts.

I don't know if any of you have an animal that's like a person? That's Jake!
Jake has been in my life for the past 9 years. He moved into my apartment in New York when I finally booted out my ex, and he instantly revived my soul. With Jake came much needed happiness and luck. Luck, because the minute Jake entered my life, so did the "love of my life," Michael.
Of course they became fast friends!

And the rest is history. I moved to Florida, Michael and I were married, Jake was the ring bearer (look closely)....

And he was our first baby! Wherever we went,  Jake went. He flew with us on trips.....

Helped sing back up's in the recording studio......

Celebrated the holidays with us, and talk about being a sport!

And even became a therapy dog to visit nursing homes.....

When we thought about having kids, we knew he would be fine, because he's always been great with other peoples kids.....

I could go on and on. Jake has always been there for me. When I was pregnant and hugging the toilet from morning sickness, I would hear a little cry behind me, and there Jake would be sitting feeling my pain.
He licks away my tears and celebrates my joy, and most importantly, he welcomed Tommy into our home with open paws. Jake instantly became Tommy's best friend and protector.

So, when there was a question of whether or not we should get Jake eye surgery to correct his blindness, we didn't think twice.

I am happy to announce that my faithful buddy Jake is doing well, recovering from his surgery this past Monday!

Here's "LOOKING" forward to many more adventures Jake! We love you!

I'm almost in tears! This is so sweet. I COMPLETELY understand, our dog Minnie was/is just like Jake to you guys. She has tested us quite a bit with the baby (just being very naughty sometimes), but we still love her! I LOVE that pic of the cowboy costume! SO hilarious!!!
