DIY Slate Cheese Board

Okay, this is embarrassingly EASY! I was in Crate & Barrel one day when I came across a slate cheese board for $25! I thought.......... I could make this thing for about $5. at the most! So I did! Here's how!

First I headed to Home Depot, and bought this 12 x 12 inch piece of slate for $1.69. Next I grabbed 4 self adhesive felt pads. I already had some, but you can get them at an Office Depot for about $3! I washed the slate well, let it dry, and then placed a felt circle in each corner.

Before I use it, I rub the slate with olive oil. This gives it a deeper color and a slight sheen. I thought about sealing it, but I don't want to serve cheese off of anything with chemicals!

Add cheeses of your choice and label with chalk. I used Manchego (my absolute favorite), cheddar and brie. I also added greenery from my own backyard. You can also add nuts, grapes, apples, whatever! Be creative!

This slate cheese board is also a great Christmas gift idea!
